Bio

Stephanie Slate is an artist, printer, papermaker, and educator living just outside of Philadelphia. She received her BFA in Photography from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and her MFA in Studio Art from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She currently works administratively for the Weitzman School of Design and teaches Fine Art Photography at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Summer Prep program.

Slate is known for working with alternative process photography- cyanotype, wet plate collodion, and platinum printing, often on handmade paper. Her work explores attachment and loss and is often described as ethereal. She has an extreme sensitivity to materials and considers both the physical and conceptual importance of their use. Her work has been exhibited internationally, featured in publications, and is in numerous private and public collections.
